Stem Plant Trimming Method for a Special Lighting Method

Stem plants in this aquascape are a type of plant that grows well in a deep aquarium and endures repeated trimming. However, the lighting method for this aquarium that is exhibited in the Nature Aquarium Gallery is rather unique. As shown in the aquascape data here, three Solar I fixtures are installed to illuminate two 90 cm aquariums (the tall type.) Our experience tells us that while the plants on the left side of an aquarium that is placed right beneath the center Solar I tends to grow fast, those on the right side where light does not reach as well grow a bit slower. Therefore the stem plants on the left with strong light are trimmed somewhat shorter and the ones on the right are left a bit taller since trimming the left and right sides evenly along the same line results in uneven heights. Thus extra attention had to be given to the trimming line to match the heights of the stem plants in time for a photo shoot.
