Aquatic plants.Aqua Soil Amazonia II creates an ideal environment for fish and aquatic plants.

Increased pH and hardness of water becomes a problem during the initial period after set up of an Iwagumi layout where Ryuo-Seki rocks are arranged. This is because the calcium contained in Ryuo-Seki dissolves in water with the injection of CO2. This may cause the new shoots of aquatic plants to bleach or become stunted and make it difficult to start up a new layout smoothly. Since the increase of pH and hardness was expected based on previous layout productions, Aqua Soil Amazonia II was used for the substrate in this layout. Therefore the increase in the pH and hardness was minimized and Glossostigma and Riccia developed runners and shiny new shoots without any problem. Aquatic plants covered up Amazonia II eventually and the water gradually became slightly alkaline and moderately hard. However, the change was gradual and it did not cause any problem to the growth of the aquatic plants. This environment was actually closer to the natural habitat of Red Fin Red Nose (Sawbwa resplendens). This is an aquascape in which the environment reached a state that is favorable to both fish and aquatic plants.
